Our REISCH family originated in Bukovina, the easternmost province of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. We came from two shtetls, Sadagora and Rohozna, located a very short distance from the capital of Bukovina, Czernowitz ( also known as Cernauti, Chernowitz, Chernovitsy, and Tschernowitz, now known as Chernivtsi, Ukraine). The BRUKER / BRUCKER family originated back as far as the late 1700s in Radautz, Bukovina. There may also be ties to the nearby town of Solka. On the other hand, The SCHACHTER family, came from Okup (Okop, Okopy - Russia), and moved to Radautz, Bukovina, in the late 1800s. Okup was the birthplace of the Ba'al Shem Tov, founder of the Hasidic movement.
